WHY CAMERA SETTINGS MATTER!
HOT TIP!
SHOOT RAW! SETTINGS MATTER!
So I sent my R6 into Canon to get a button fixed that broke. I got it back yesterday afternoon just in time for a session. I went and shot just like I normally would assuming my settings were all the same because I just had a button replaced....no need to default my camera settings right!! WRONG 😖
I came home with jpeg images on autoWB & standard picture style 🤢🤮😲
My goodness editing these is a nightmare!!! The highlights are so blue and blown despite underexposing....
underexposing a jpeg file is no bueno, you can't bring it back well without the RAW :( Everything has blue undertones for fall images :(
Batch editing is a joke with auto WB because every image was balanced differently by my camera. I normally set my Kelvin WB so all images are the same and batch adjustable per setting. The standard picture style is best for landscape images with high contrast. Having a nuetral picture style and a RAW image lets you choose your style best!
I am cursing and crying as I edit these images.
THE MORAL OF THE STORY SETTINGS MATTER!
SHOOT RAW, KELVIN WB and NUETRAL picture style
OH and my metering defaulted to evaluative (full scene) instead of spot metering and my focal settings were on expand (auto) too! SETTINGS MATTER.
For optimal control, color, result go check your settings:
Metering: spot metering
AF: eye tracking or spot
Image type: RAW
WB: Kelvin (you can do warmer for outdoor but I leave mine to match my strobe at 5600, as long as it's consistent in camera, it's adjustable in LR or ACR)
Picture Style: Nuetral: Let's you choose your result best
Of course I can fix all this, but it is SOOOOO much harder. And with out my years of experience in PS I doubt I could!
HAPPY EDITING!
